On Online Practices of Hospitality in Higher Education

Abstract This article contributes to conversations on hospitality in educational settings, with a focus higher education and the online context. We integrate Derrida’s ethics of framework practices hospitality, including its affective material, embodied dimension (Zembylas: Stud Philos Educ 39:37–50, 2019). offers empirical examples what we termed ‘virtual academic hospitality’: during series collaborative cross borders workshops teachers English based Gaza Strip (Palestine), performed through virtual convivial rituals sharing gifts, which are illustrated here. propose revision concept arguing that: firstly, is not limited intellectual conversations; secondly, that relationship between mobility needs be revised, since mediated by technological medium can performed, technology may even stretch towards unreachable ‘unconditional hospitality’ theorised Derrida (Of hospitality: Anne Dufourmantelle invited Jacques respond.
